The Ran Dhihafaheh series, «Golden 50», was issued for the fiftieth anniversary of Maldivian independence: it is the first entirely new family of Maldivian money in more than thirty years, and all its values are printed by De La Rue on Safeguard polymer.
The hundred's theme is «nationalism and our native language»: Maldivians in traditional dress and a woman in a libaas embroidering its neckline, against the old Maldivian alphabet Dives Akuru. The back shows an early written record in the Dhivehi language, the Dambidū Lōmāfānu.
This piece comes from the issue dated 10 March 2018 with the signature of governor Ahmed Naseer; the MMA put these notes into circulation on 3 September 2018.
For a Maldives collection this is a piece of the anniversary polymer series, and for a writing-systems theme it offers an old alphabet and an early Dhivehi text, in its second date with a new signature. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
If this banknote has caught your interest, the VPcoins catalogue has other issues from the same issuer worth seeing.
